Video Whitelisting – What It Is & How to Request It – SunoDistro
Video whitelisting is an important feature for artists using YouTube Content ID. This page explains what video whitelisting means, why it is required, and how you can request it through the SunoDistro dashboard.
What Is Video Whitelisting?
Video whitelisting means excluding a specific YouTube video from Content ID claims.
When your audio is enrolled in YouTube Content ID, the system automatically detects and claims videos that use your music. In some cases, you may want a particular video to remain claim-free, even though it uses your audio.
Whitelisting allows YouTube to:
Ignore Content ID claims on that specific video
Prevent monetization or restrictions on that video
Allow the video to remain unaffected by Content ID rules
Important:
Whitelisting applies to individual videos only
It does not remove Content ID from your audio
It does not whitelist entire channels
Why Video Whitelisting Is Needed
Video whitelisting is commonly used when:
You uploaded an official music video yourself
A promotional or marketing video needs to stay claim-free
A collaborator or partner needs temporary permission
You want to avoid claims on a specific approved video
Without whitelisting, Content ID may automatically place a claim on the video, even if you are the original rights holder.
How Video Whitelisting Works
The process works as follows:
Your audio remains protected under YouTube Content ID
A specific video is identified for whitelisting
That video is excluded from Content ID enforcement
No monetization or restriction is applied to that video
All other videos using your audio will continue to be claimed and monetized normally.
What Can Be Whitelisted
You can request whitelisting for:
A single YouTube video URL
Videos you own or have authorized
Videos that legally use your original audio
Whitelisting is not automatic and must be reviewed before approval.
