How Content ID Works – SunoDistro
YouTube Content ID is an automated system that identifies and manages copyrighted music used across YouTube. Through SunoDistro, eligible music is delivered to Content ID so that ownership can be recognized and revenue can be generated when your audio is used by others.
This page explains, step by step, how Content ID works after your music is submitted.
Step 1: Audio Fingerprinting
Once your release is submitted for Content ID through SunoDistro:
Your audio file is converted into a unique digital fingerprint
This fingerprint represents the structure and sound of your track
The fingerprint is stored securely in YouTube’s Content ID database
This process allows YouTube to recognize your music even if:
The audio is shortened
The pitch or speed is slightly altered
The track is used in the background
Step 2: Claim Application
When YouTube detects usage of your audio:
A Content ID claim is automatically created
Predefined usage rules are applied to that content
Possible actions include:
Monetize – Ads are placed and revenue is generated
Track – Usage data is collected without monetization
Block – The content may be restricted in selected territories
For most eligible audio, monetization is applied automatically.
Step 3: Revenue Generation
When ads run on content that uses your audio:
Revenue is generated from ad impressions
Earnings are collected by YouTube
Revenue is finalized after YouTube’s reporting cycle
Once SunoDistro receives the official report, earnings are uploaded to your dashboard. Content ID revenue is not real-time and follows standard reporting timelines.
Step 4: Earnings & Reporting
Important points to understand:
Content ID earnings are separate from YouTube Music streams
Revenue depends on ad performance and viewer location
Reports may arrive weekly or monthly depending on YouTube
All earnings shown in your SunoDistro dashboard are exactly as reported by YouTube.
Ownership & Eligibility Rules
Content ID works only if you own exclusive rights to the audio.
Your content must:
Be 100% original
Not use leased, free, or non-exclusive beats
Not contain third-party samples or libraries
Not be distributed by multiple distributors
Incorrect submissions may result in claim disputes or Content ID removal.
Important Notes
Content ID does not affect your official YouTube channel
Claims can be reviewed or released if required
Abuse or incorrect submissions may lead to penalties
SunoDistro manages Content ID delivery, while enforcement and reporting are controlled by YouTube.
